About
Our outward appearance is something that all of us has struggled with at some point or are struggling with now. We want our appearance to be a direct representation of who we are on the inside. Or, sometimes we want to hide or transform who we are on the inside and our appearance is one of the ways we go about doing that. To that end, our appearance is this powerful way that we express our individuality. It is one way that we tell the world who we are, a way for us to declare who we want or hope to be.
We all make judgments about people based on our first impressions of them, (despite the rightness or wrongness of this fact) which is largely influenced by a person’s appearance. We look carefully at the way they are dressed, if they are wearing bright colors, neutrals or all-black, we look at the way they wear their hair, if it is perfectly coifed or wild, we look at their piercings and tattoos or lack of, we look at their nails, whether they are short, long, clean or dirty, whether they are painted bright red or black.
All of these things and many others, whether intentionally or unintentionally, tell us a lot about a person.
I want this to be a place where we can explore these things. How are we expressing our individuality through our appearance and what are we trying to say exactly? Are we being misperceived? Do we care? I want this to be a place where we can share our struggles with our appearance and also a place where we can discuss how we are using our appearance to express who we are, or who we want to be.
